Cash 4 Clothes Does A Good Turn for the Scouts

When the 3rd Cloverdale Scout Troop set a goal of $40,000 for their trip to the 2017 Canadian Jamboree in Nova Scotia, many fundraising ideas were needed. After participating in a Cash 4 Clothes opportunity with my child’s school Parent Advisory Council, I knew this would help the boys earn money as well as support Scouting’s focus on environmental stewardship. DDA provided us with all of the promotional materials and bags so we could collect at Beaver, Cub and Scout meetings throughout the month of January. We also gathered clothing and houseware donations from the community during our Christmas tree chipping event held at a local business. We filled 156 bags and brought in $468 for the cause. Everyone involved was also thrilled to see a mountain of items that were headed for re-use instead of the landfill!

It’s much easier to ask people to open their closets instead of their wallets and as a Scout parent, I was thankful that we were able to help the group lower the cost of the trip for families. In July 2017, 16 Scouts and 6 Leaders attended CJ’17 and had a memorable experience. Thank you to DDA Cash 4 Clothes for being among the donors that assisted them with that journey.
