Carrie joined the team at Mercato di Luigi in August, and it’s been a wonderful fit from the very beginning! With a long-standing passion for baking and a keen interest in working in a professional kitchen, Carrie was thrilled to start with a short, unpaid work experience placement. It didn’t take long for her talent and enthusiasm to shine; soon after, she was officially hired as a Kitchen Assistant.
Carrie works regular shifts on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m., and recently she’s been invited to take on extra hours to help during the bakery’s busy season, a true reflection of how valued she has become as part of the team.
Her responsibilities include portioning and weighing ingredients, zesting lemons and oranges, juicing, boxing cookies, labelling and wrapping products, and jumping in wherever an extra hand is needed. Working under Chef Jessica has proven to be a reliable and enthusiastic team member. Jessica shared with Carrie’s Employment Specialist that she is “doing an excellent job and continues to grow in her role.”
One of Carrie’s favourite tasks is zesting lemons, as she loves the fresh, bright scent it brings to the kitchen. Recently, she’s begun learning how to pipe, which she finds both challenging and rewarding, and she’s determined to master it!
Over the past few months, Carrie has had the chance to sample many of the bakery’s delicious creations. Her current favourite? The Olive Oil Cake.
Carrie’s hard work, positive attitude, and passion for baking have truly paid off.
Congratulations, Carrie, we’re so proud of all you’ve achieved!
