Richmond, January 4, 2019 – The Developmental Disabilities Association, a charity that operates services for over 1,800 individuals with developmental disabilities, is saddened by the news of the death of an individual in a West Vancouver donation bin belonging to another organization. Community safety is a top priority for our association.
Since last year, we have been working with Dr. Ray Taheri, Professor of Engineering at UBC Okanagan, regarding bin design. Our collaboration has so far resulted in a competition where first year engineering students presented prototypes for potentially safer bin designs. We were pleased to participate on the judging panel and are encouraged by the innovation and ideas that have come forward. Immediately following the most recent tragedy Dr. Ray Taheri responded by forming a taskforce and we will be a part of this group, continuing to contribute our industry experience.
We would like to thank the public for all the support we have received.
