DDA Opens East Richmond Day Program

By Jackie Lanz

Nestled in the Crestwood Corporate Centre complex just off No. 6 Road, we officially opened our doors to the new day program in early July and will have an open house this fall to show off the new site to staff and the community.

We are having a lot of fun exploring all that our new environment and community have to offer. The indoor space is a light-filled canvas that feels homelike but with all amenities, including newly added accessibility features for touch access doors & task lighting.

Outside, we are just steps away from a running and walking trail that surrounds the centre. There is also outdoor fitness equipment and an urban garden space that we have yet to explore. While we are brimming with excitement, this new space is a work in progress that we will continue to develop as our participant group grows. Currently, we are off to a gentle start and are working with CLBC on new referrals.

You never know what kind of feeling a new environment will evoke; you hope it will be comfortable, accessible, stimulating when you want it to be, and calm when needed. So far, we are finding that this area has the feeling of community and an energy that is welcoming. Other business park employees stop in to see how we are settling in or simply connect with a friendly smile and hello.

A special thank you to the Richmond Schools that let me visit during the end of June, when it is your busiest time of the year! We appreciate you taking the time to support students transitioning to our new program.
