A Message from Our New President – Patricia Barnes

It is my honour to take over as President of DDA from Ted Bruce. Ted dedicated a lot of time to the Board and the association as it went through changes over the last few years, offering his knowledge and experience to ensure that he left it in a better place. I joined the DDA Board just over two years ago, and I have grown to better know and understand the importance of the organization and the support that it provides.

Knowing his tenure was over, Ted asked if I would be willing to step up to the role of President, as I have had quite a bit of experience in board work over the years, especially in the non-profit industry. It felt like it was the least I could do, and I was happy that the other board members supported his suggestion.

DDA’s Board of Directors is dedicated to expanding to meet the current and future needs of the people and families we support. The organization will be going into a strategic planning exercise as we set goals for the future, and both staff and the Board will work together to stay true to the mission and vision of DDA. I think it will be a busy, productive, and exciting time, and I look forward to continuing the work of those who have come before me.

The dedication of the staff to the many people who are part of the DDA family is amazing. I hope that by serving as President for the next two years, I can do my part to keep moving the organization forward and increase its capacity to be a caring and responsive place for our community.
